Juris Illuminae

The term ‘Juris Illuminae’ is Latin for “the light of the Law”. Compared with our academic journal, Juris is a more frequently-published and more informal newsletter circulated among the law student community in Singapore. As its name suggests, Juris aims to shed light on and prompt dicsussion about pertinent legal issues.

Ranging from articles that track case law development to interviews with prominent members of the legal fraternity, the content of Juris varies from month to month, often with each issue centering on a main theme chosen for its currency. Past issues of Juris in the 2009/2010 academic year have featured, for example, articles that discussed the changes to the Legal Profession Act and significant cases such as Surender Singh.

That aside, Juris is also very much in tune with the law student. Issues often feature helpful advice for law students such as tips for would-be interns and personal accounts of relevant experiences as a student.

In recent years, Juris has moved toward a more reader-friendly layout incorporating more graphics and space to enable easy reading. The latest development in the 2009/2010 academic year was the complete move of Juris online, encouraging today’s web-savvy law students to comment on articles in real-time.
