If you missed our Recruitment tea earlier today, you did not really miss anything (except the food part). You can still apply to become a member by submitting your application by 22 August 2007 (Wednesday), 5 pm. Read here for more details. (more…)

We just received confirmation yesterday … Contrary to all our posters and flyers, the SLR Recruitment tea is confirmed to be held at SR 5-2 on 20 August 2007 at 1045. Hope to see you there!

For year ones and visitors who are still getting used to the school premises, SR 5-2 is on the Fifth Level of Block B of the NUS Law Faculty at Bukit Timah Campus. This is the same building where your lectures and classes for law are held.

Although this post makes it sound as if we have an exceedingly elaborate recruitment process, there are only two stages in it — first a prospective member fills in an application to be a SLR member; and second he or she goes for an interview where we will find out more about their abilities and how they can fit in the SLR. Operations LogoThe SLR gives members the unique experience of organizing major law events from the first step to fruition. From sealing partnership deals, planning and executing various stages of an event to inviting VIPs, being a member of the SLR offers valuable lessons that will be crucial and attractive to a future employer. It is also a chance to meet many of the local legal fraternity’s biggest “stars” personally — from legal academia, law firm Partners, Judges to the Minister of Law — no law club in Singapore offers such opportunities to its members. Design LogoThe SLR gives members with knowledge of design (both in print and web) a unique experience unparalleled in any law club in NUS. Besides having the opportunity to continually show off their skills to the student population in Law School and beyond, such members also have near-complete artistic freedom to use their skills in real-world applications. If you’ve ever had an interest in designing materials to communicate ideas and messages to the greater populace, the SLR is the only law club in Singapore that allows you to use, sharpen and hone these skills to its highest levels. Writer LogoOur publications are the SLR’s main business. In every academic year, the SLR publishes its annual Journal and a newsletter Juris Illuminae, given out to students regularly. While we encourage and accept contributions from law students and academia to our publications, members are called upon to write, edit and put together. As a member of the SLR, you will not only be the first to know of any opportunity to contribute, you will also have a say (or a word, rather) in the content of our publications. (more…)

Singapore Law ReviewThe Singapore Law Review (SLR) is recruiting a new batch of members to join us. The reasons are obvious — 1) We need new members to help out in editing and writing a new edition of the Review and the organisation of our events. 2) To train a new batch of leaders to take the SLR to new heights and 3) we’re always willing to allow new and fresh blood into the SLR whenever an opportunity arises. However, due to the demands of membership and limited availability of places, the SLR holds one of the most stringent and detailed recruitment processes among law clubs in NUS Law. We only want the best, and we are sure that all successful applicants to the SLR would in return have an unique and rewarding experience in the club that no other law club can offer.

As such, we are recruiting new members in the month of August. Read the rest of this entry to find more details on what we are looking for and how to apply to join the SLR. Do feel free as well to browse the website to find out more about what we do. :) (more…)
