Dear Law School and friends,
The start of a new academic year always brings new beginnings. A new academic year also means that we welcome a new batch of freshmen into our school. Dear Law School and friends,
After the controversy surrounding the November 2009 issue, Juris has decided that we will no longer publish anything sensational. Hence, on behalf of the Juris team, I apologise for this month’s boring choice of “Sex”.

After months of non-stop editing, the SLR is proud to present Volume 27, a special volume containing insightful articles by selected finalists in the SLR International Writing Symposium on the topic of “Discrimination and the Law: A Help or a Hindrance?”. This November, we touch on the intersection between law and medicine. This intersection is inevitable. This is largely because all lawyers fall sick at some point in their life.
So last month, I was sitting in the doctor’s office when he starts reminiscing about the fierce rivalry between the Law and Medicine faculties in the 1990s. He asks me if it is still the case. I say somewhat.

OK, we know how this one goes. But how about:
“Would you steal chicken rice?”
Recently, Malaysia has said it wants to ‘lay claim’ on ‘Malaysian’ food which, perhaps ironically, apparently includes Hainanese chicken rice.
Is it really possible to copyright a dish that is sold in practically every hawker centre here and across the Straits?
