Juris Illuminae: Volume 7 Issue 5
Dear Law School and Friends,
In line with our attempt at making our articles more interesting and relevant, this month we have articles discussing issues that have made the headlines recently. It has been an eventful and we have read a fair share of sad news. Steve Jobs, the former CEO of Apple, succumbed to his long-drawn battle with pancreatic cancer. While widely revered for his very successful legacy in creating the Apple brand name, a darker side has also emerged as critics have pointed out that he utilised aggressive business tactics, especially with respect to his attempts at protecting the Apple’s legal trademark. On the other side of the world in China, 2-year-old toddler Yueyue died after being knocked down not just by one, but two vehicles. Passersby failed to act even after the first vehicle knocked her down and left her to fend for herself, until an elderly woman carried her off the road – albeit a step taken far too late. The video of the incident has since gone viral and people all over the world have expressed outrage. This has sparked off debate about the notion of Good Samaritan legislation and whether or not we should impose such liability on passersby. More over, with the recent conclusion of the recent Criminal Law Conference, our writer Nisha explores some of the issues which were discussed during the conference. Last but not least, the issue of pre-nuptial agreements is also mentioned in one of our articles as our writer explores the nature of such agreements and what they typically contain. As usual, please feel free to browse and comment if you have any opinions about what our authors have to say!
